AHS SMART Goals

S - Specific

M - Measurable

A - Attainable

R - Realistic

T - Timely

1)  Beginning in the fall of 2011 – 2012, there will be two reading and two writing Essential Skills (ACT Readiness Skills) included in each core area Essential Skills.   Students are expected to master these at 80%.

2)  Beginning in the fall of 2011 – 2012, there will be two reading and two writing Essential Skills assessed in each quarterly assessment and final exam.  Students are expected to master these at 80%.

3)  During the 2011 -2012 school year, there will be an increased emphasis on identification and inclusion of critical thinking questions in classroom discussions, quarterly assessments and final exams.  Beginning second semester, at least 2/3 of all test/quiz questions in English, Math, Science and Social Studies will consist of analysis, synthesis, and/or evaluation questions.

4)  Beginning the first semester, the skills that are being taught will be posted on the board and directly stated during the lesson with consistency by the teachers.  Students will be able to articulate the skills taught during the lesson.  This will be evaluated by administrators as they observe and walk through classrooms.

5) Beginning the first semester, teachers will consistently assess the entire class for learning through procedures such as having students respond in writing, use of small white boards, etc.  Student learning will drive teacher instruction – teachers will reteach when there is less than 80% comprehension.

6) Beginning the first semester of 2011 – 2012, teachers will include discussions on levels of engagement as they relate to instructional strategies at each PLC meeting.

7) Beginning the first semester of 2011 – 2012, each PLC team will evaluate the percentage of failures and/or near failures at each grading period.
